His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, also known as Srila Prabhupada, author of 84 books on Vedic knowledge and founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness and the Bhaktivedanta Institute, desired to erect the world’s largest planetarium depicting Vedic cosmology through modern technology. He hoped that this gigantic, virtual, 3-dimensional, animated model would give the contemporary world access to the Vedic cosmos.

While the Vedic planetarium is now nearly ready to be opened for the public in the holy city of Sri Mayapurdham near Kolkata, an authoritative and visually compelling documentary on the subject is the need of the hour.

Almost a decade ago, understanding this very special requirement - H.H Danavir Goswami (a sannyasi disciple of Srila Prabhupada) initiated the “Vedic Cosmos” documentary project. He authored books, wrote papers, held talks and seminars to kindle interest of general public in this fascinating and enlightening subject.

He produced and directed “Vedic Cosmos”, a 60 minute documentary featuring many experts from the fields of Vedic astronomy and cosmology. Right from its initial DVD release the documentary was an instant success; garnering appreciation and accolades from viewers across the world.

In the following years, in a short span of it’s internet presence the documentary drew more than 4 million views, a feat rarely achieved for an educational documentary.

PRESENT

The film, television and media landscape has changed vastly in the last ten years. While the technological innovations in the fields of computer generated graphics and visual effects have made the audience experience and expectations more sophisticated. The emergence of multi-platforms (Internet TV, mobiles, tablets and computers) coupled with faster Internet has evolved the audience viewing habits to be more curated and individualistic. Traditional television and broadcast networks are now more or less obsolete and audiences across the world are in control of what they watch.

This is an ideal time for independent documentaries to reach their audiences directly without depending on the trends, profits and agenda driven broadcast networks.

Fueled by the success of the original “Vedic Cosmos” documentary and keeping the recent technological developments in mind - it is time for a new, updated and more slicker version of the documentary to be brought out.

FUTURE

“Vedic Cosmos - An intelligent design” is a follow- up of the original documentary - closely following the same format but will be presented using the latest - ultra-high definition, ultra-real computer generated graphics and visual effects.

To reach a much wider range of audiences around the world, the documentary will be available in multiple languages [English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese (Cantonese) and Hindi] and multiple devices. For a complete visually thrilling experience the documentary will also be available in 360° dome projection format as well as be playable on virtual reality devices.

The idea behind this project is to inspire and educate new minds on the Vedic perspective of the Cosmos. This project will enliven us to go deeper into the sacred mysteries of the Universe and open the door for future research by open-minded & questioning scientists.
